A smartphone can remain waterproof even after a repair – provided the repair is performed correctly.
Opening a waterproof device, for example, often requires removing seals and/or adhesives that prevent water from entering the device.
If the repair is done correctly, the technician will replace the gaskets and/or adhesive with new ones, restoring waterproofing.
If the battery is serviced at an authorized (by the device manufacturer) repair center, it should still be waterproof, although there is no guarantee. Many modern phones are literally glued together. A small, undetectable gap in the glue would be enough for water to get in. Personally, I would not trust such a phone to be anything more than “splash-proof” after repair.
It should also be noted that a cell phone manufacturer’s warranty does not cover water damage, even if the phone is rated waterproof. This says a lot about the confidence manufacturers have in the waterproofing of their phones, even under normal, non-abusive use.
A phone’s water resistance is not a license to take the device into the swimming pool. A waterproof phone should reasonably survive a brief, drunken dip in the toilet (I’ve never done it, but I know people who have). But it’s not meant to swim or even shower with you. Again, there is no manufacturer warranty for water damage, even on brand new phones that have never been serviced.
After battery replacement, you can still keep your phone waterproof. There are certain steps that you should take to ensure that your device remains safe.
While this article will cover important ways in which you can keep your smartphone safe, it is pertinent that we, first of all, identify what makes a Smartphone waterproof.
What Makes a Smartphone Waterproof?
The need to have waterproofing technology has been on the rise. These days smartphones are being used in many different ways, but in some cases, it’s still important to keep them safe and dry.
Waterproofing technologies have evolved over the years and so has the understanding of what makes a smartphone waterproof. For example, putting nano-coating on products is one way manufacturers can prevent water from getting inside the device and ruining its performance.
Smartphones are made of materials that are not waterproof. That’s why sometimes, they can get wet and become damaged. But if you want to make your smartphone water-resistant, there are a few things you should know first.
Some of the most common materials that smartphones are made of include plastic, glass, metals, rubber and carbon fibre. For plastic phones, the best way to make them waterproof is by applying a special oleophobic coating on them for long-term protection.
When it comes to device-level protection for smartphones, silicon is one of the most popular options because it could be directly written over with a protective layer without any risk of damage or degradation in performance. For phone level protection, there are several well-known solutions like liquid silicone gel case or glass screen protector or even
